All westbound lanes remained closed at 10:24 a.m. between Exit 16 in Jackson Township and Exit 11, said Sgt. Philip Curry, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police.

First responders were called at 6:45 a.m. on reports of an I-195 crash near Route 537 in Jackson Township, Curry said. Curry confirmed that one person was killed in a two-car crash near mile-marker 13.4.

Curry could not confirm an earlier report that someone may have been ejected from an overturned vehicle, or whether the crash was head-on.

There were unconfirmed reports of a second I-195 crash westbound near Exit 11 and Route 524 in Upper Freehold Township, authorities in Monmouth County said.

State troopers had not released any immediate details about that possible crash, or whether it was serious.

Lanes on the interstate were closed in both directions at 6:45 a.m. as EMS and firefighters arrived, resulting in major traffic delays, Curry said.

All westbound lanes of Interstate-195 remained closed as of 10:24 a.m., Curry said.

Both crashes were initially reported as possible head-on crashes.
